Introduction of the Course Instructor, Houshang Moradi Kermani
Houshang Moradi Kermani, a Story Writer, screenwriter, and playwright, born in 1944 in the village of Sirch in the Shahdad district of Kerman province. He graduated in Dramatic Arts and English translation. He started writing in 1961 with Kerman Radio, and continued his work in Tehran. His first story, "The Alley of Us Lucky Ones," was published in the Khoshe magazine under the editorial supervision of Ahmad Shamlou. "Masoumeh" and "I Am a Frightened Gazelle" are his first published books. He then started writing a series of stories called "Majid's Tales" for the Radio. These stories gained popularity and were later published in a book of the same name in the late 1970s. This book received the Commendation Plaque of the Children's Book Council in 1981 and became the selected book of the Fourth Book of the Year of Islamic Republic of Iran in 1985. The books " The Children of Carpet-Weaving House," "The Water Urn," "The Palm," "The Boot," "Fist on Hide," "The Tandoor and Other Stories," "Mommy's Guest," "A Sweet Jam," "The Smile of Pomegranate," "You’re No Stranger Here," "Cucumber End," "Neither Wet, nor Dry," "Water Storage," and "Teaspoon" are some of Houshang Moradi Kermani's works.
In addition to writing story books, he has experience in playwriting and screenwriting. Moreover, numerous TV and cinematic adaptations have been made based on his works, including successful ones like "Majid's Tales," "The Water Urn," "The Boot," "A Sweet Jam," and "Mommy's Guest". These works are the outcome of collaborations with renowned directors such as Kioumars Pourahmad, Mohammad Ali Talebi, Marzieh Boroomand, and Dariush Mehrjui.
Moradi Kermani's stories have been translated into over 20 different languages, including German, English, Arabic, French, Chinese, and Greek, and have won numerous awards both inside and outside of Iran. He has been nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award three times and holds the commendation letter of the jury of this award in 1992. Other accomplishments and honors in the field of storytelling include the inclusion of his works in UNESCO's Memory of the World National Committee, nomination for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, the commendation letter of the University of Cambridge, winner of the Children and Young Adults Book Award in Austria, receiving the Jose Marti Award in Costa Rica, being the selected writer of the year and winner of the Berlin International Award, honorary diploma from the CPN Institute in the Netherlands, receiving the commendation plaque of the Children's Book Council, being the selected book in the Fourth Book of the Year competition, selected figure in the fifth Ever-lasting Names award, and Mehragan Literary Award.
